Background

I acquired an amazing collection of scrapbooks from an Australian Quo fan over twenty years ago.

These seventeen A3-sized scrapbooks are filled with clippings from Australia, the UK and Germany (plus a few from other countries), mainly from the 1970s and 1980s. They represent an incredible archive of material and it's a pleasure to now share their content with Quo fans through this website.

About me

I've been a Quo fan for over forty years and have built up one of Australia's largest collections of Quo's recorded materials and memorabilia.

I've seen the band live over 300 times and run the Access All Areas Quo website, which features the band's most complete online gig listing.

I hope you enjoy virtually flicking through these scrapbooks. If you can fill in any of the missing details about any of the clippings, please get in touch by email (including the URL of the clipping).

Using the site

Homepage

The site has a simple structure, with a homepage providing access to each of the different scrapbooks. Selecting a particular scrapbook opens the scrapbook page.

Scrapbook page

This contains a scrolling control showing thumbnails of every page of the selected scrapbook (broken up into 10-page chunks).

Hovering over a clipping on a thumbnail scrapbook page shows brief information about that clipping. Selecting a clipping opens the clipping page (in a new browser tab).

Clipping page

This shows a higher-resolution copy of the selected clipping, along with information such as the year, publication and author (where known and/or applicable).

Hovering over the clipping image opens a zoom control to allow for easier reading of smaller text (pinch gestures work to achieve the same zoom effect on mobiles).

If the clipping includes text, then this is shown below the clipping image.

Technical details

Camera

The pages of these scrapbooks have been captured using a Nikon D5600 digital SLR with Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens, supported by a K&F Concept TM2515T Professional tripod.

Images were shot in JPEG FINE format, using the camera's built-in "Food" shooting mode.

Image tools

The Tinify image size reduction tool was used to make the images smaller in size without a significant loss of quality.

The OCRSpace optical character recognition tool was used to generate the text from each clipping (with manual checking and cleanup as required).

Happy browsing!
